We are delighted that Joe Davies has agreed to join the NSSO family from 2024 and will be conducting the Sinfonia Orchestra. Recently praised for his ‘musical brilliance’ (Seen and Heard International), Joe Davies is Musical Director of the UK Proms in the Park Orchestra, Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra, Leamington Sinfonia, Coventry & Warwickshire Youth Orchestra, and Midland Concert Orchestra; Artistic Director of Cumbria Opera Group and Contemporary Music East Midlands (CoMA); and an Assistant Conductor for the English Symphony Orchestra and Opera Holland Park. Recent and future engagements include the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, City of Southampton Orchestra, and Oxford University Orchestra. He was Artistic Director of the Cumbria Opera Festivals 2021 and 2023, involving artists such as Roderick Williams OBE and Joan Rodgers CBE. Highlights include collaborations with Laura van der Heijden, Jess Gillam, and Xhosa Cole and Premieres from Howard Skempton, Martin Bussey, and Alex Ho; MD credits include Candide at the Oxford Playhouse, and Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Trouble in Tahiti, A Hand of Bridge, Acis and Galatea, Venus and Adonis and Dido and Aeneas with the Cumbria Opera Group. Joe graduated with a First Class degree in music from St Peter’s College, Oxford, before graduating with Distinction from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied Orchestral Conducting under Michael Seal.
